Here in Oberwielenbach we fondly refer to the Rammelstein as “our” mountain, calling it “Rommisa”. And this also helped to inspire the new name of our hotel! At a height of 2,483 m, the Rammelstein offers stunning views of the central Pustertal Valley. From the summit, you enjoy a wonderful panorama of the Dolomites and the glaciers of the Rieserferner region all the way to the Zillertaler Alps.
Think you can conquer the Rommisa? Starting from our hotel, head to the car park on the edge of the village of Oberwielenbach and follow the forest trail. Pass through the wide Wielental Valley, then take trail no. 6 that follows the Bärenbach torrent to the Peintner Wiesele meadow not far from the Gönner Alm mountain refuge. From there, follow the signs to Rammelstein before reaching the upper edge of the forest. Be careful, as the final stretch to the summit is rocky and requires a good sense of balance. It takes about three hours to reach the cross on the summit.
